November 12 - American firm Under Armour will provide the kit for Team Wales at Glasgow 2014American sport and leisure company Under Armour have been announced as the new kit supplier to Team Wales for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The deal will see Under Armour provide sporting kit for Welsh athletes competing at the Games along with staff and other officials supporting the squad in Glasgow.

The Baltimore-based firm already has a strong presence in Wales, having supplied equipment to the team at three previous Commonwealth Games as well as being the official kit supplier to the Welsh national rugby team.

"The kit that athletes and support staff will wear for the duration of the Games is one of the most important elements of our preparations," said Chris Jenkins, chief executive of Commonwealth Games Wales.

"We want to ensure that athletes feel both comfortable and proud to wear the kit and we've definitely got it right with Under Armour.

"We're delighted to have received the backing of Under Armour, who already have a fantastic reputation in Wales as the official kit provider for the Welsh rugby team."

The new kit was officially launched at an event in Cardiff attended by some of Wales top sporting stars who will be hoping to make their mark next year, including world champion and Paralympic bronze medal winning shot putter Aled Davies, Delhi 2010 boxing gold medallist Sean McGoldrick, swimmer Jazz Carlin, who secured silver and bronze in Delhi, and table tennis player Charlotte Carey.

"The launch and fitting of the kit for some of the athletes likely to be involved in the Games is always very exciting," said Jenkins.

"It's just another reminder that the event is well on its way and that all the planning and preparations since the Delhi Games are starting to come together."

The new Under Armour kit will incorporate the red, white and green of the Welsh flag and will be supplied by Under Armour's Newport-based UK partner Total Teamwear.

"Under Armour Teamsports in conjunction with Total Teamwear are delighted and very proud to be the official kit provider for Team Wales for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow," said Damian Cooper, managing director of Under Armour Teamsports.

"UA (Under Armour) stands for performance and we will provide Team Wales with the most innovative products available to allow them to perform at their best."
