World Taekwondo Federation chief Chungwon Choue (right) has reappointed Peru's Ivan Dibos as his vice-presidentOctober 30 - Iván Dibos has been re-appointed as vice-president of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).


The 74-year-old Peruvian will continue in a position he was originally appointed too in 2009, WTF President Chungwon Choue announced at an extraordinary Council meeting held at the Westin Nua Dua Resort Hotel in Bali today. 

Dibos, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1982, had helped taekwondo retain its position on the Olympic programme despite the sport being among the favourites to be dropped after Rio 2016.

Australia's Phil Coles, an honorary member of the IOC having had to step down in 2011 when he turned 80, and South Korea's Dae-soon Lee, chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, were named as honorary vice-presidents.

Also at the meeting, held on the the eve of the WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, appointed eight Council members.

These included Britain's Beijing 2008 Olympic bronze medallist Sarah Stevenson, who retired following London 2012, and Djibouti's Aicha Garad Ali and South Korea's Athens 2004 champion Dae-sung Moon, both members of the IOC.

They will be joined by Anthony Ferguson, Milan Kwee, Michel Madar and Pimol Srivikorn, Presidents of the national federations of Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, Israel and Thailand respectively. 

The Council is completed by Carine Lahoud, former President of the Lebanese Taekwondo Federation.
