Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be launched on November 8October 17 - Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be launched for Wii U owners across Europe on November 8, Nintendo revealed today.

The game, the first in the Mario and Sonic series for the console, will feature 16 of the different Olympic events to be contended at next year's Olympics, including skiing, speed skating, ski jumping, curling, snowboard snowslope and biathlon, as well as "Snowball Scrimmage" - the ultimate snowball fight.

Meanwhile, eight "Dream Events" allow for fantasy tournaments not possible in real life, such as the "Winter Sports Champion Race" that enables you to switch between skis onto a snowboard, and on bobsleigh before donning a pair of skates.

Players will be able to direct the iconic gaming characters in both individual and team events, a "Legends Showdown" and the "Action and Answer Tour", with the option for an online competition mode also available.

The game will also take advantage of the Wii U GamePad's touch screen.

Mario and Sonic at Sochi 2014 is the fourth in a series of Olympic themed video games, following those for Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010 and London 2012.
