Jochen Färber has been appointed by new IOC President Thomas Bach as head of his executive officeOctober 18 - New International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has made his first significant appointment to the organisation's administration by announcing that Jochen Färber is become head of his executive office.


The 46-year-old German has worked closely with Bach for a number of years, most recently during Munich's unsuccessful bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics when Färber was chief spokesman.

Färber, who will officially take up his new role on December 1, is currently the managing director of the Olympic Training centre for fencing in Germany and head of the centre's marketing arm.

He is also a Board member of Tauberbischofsheim Fencing Club, who Bach represented during his successful international career, which included winning an Olympic gold medal at Montreal 1976 in the team foil event.

Färber had started his career as a journalist and has worked for Eurosport and the International Paralympic Committee, as well as previously being head of broadcasting at the International Fencing Federation.

He is fluent in German, English and French.
