October 10 - The MasterCard Centre in Toronto will host this year's World Sledge Hockey ChallengeThis year's World Sledge Hockey Challenge will see reigning champions the United States travel to Toronto looking to defend their title where they will be up against hosts Canada, Russia and Japan.

The tournament, which will run from December 1 to 7 at the MasterCard Centre, represents one of the last major events before the start of the Sochi 2014 Paralympics and each of the four teams will be looking to continue fine-tuning their preparations for the biggest tournament of them all next year.

Reigning Paralympic champions the US will be hoping to leave Toronto with the World Sledge Hockey Challenge crown safely intact after their 1-0 victory over rivals Canada in the final of last year's tournament in the Markin MacPhail Centre at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park.

While that was a huge disappointment for the Canadians, who have won the event four times, they more than made up for it earlier this year after reversing the score against the US in the final of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Sledge Hockey Championships in Goyang, South Korea, to take their third world crown.

Head coach Mike Mondin's side added to their victory in Goyang by emerging on top at the recent Four Nations Sochi 2014 test event in the Shayba Arena, overcoming Norway in the final.

"We are excited about getting back to game action in Toronto," Mondin said.

"The World Sledge Hockey Challenge is one of the biggest events in our sport, and it's sure to be a great week on the road to the Paralympics."

Russia came third in Sochi and the World Championship bronze medallists will be hoping that another competitive outing will help to continue preparations for their tilt at securing Paralympic gold on home ice next year.

Meanwhile, Japan, who are due to take part in the Sochi 2014 Qualifying Tournament in Turin on October 20-26, will have fond memories of competing in Canada after securing the silver medal at Vancouver 2010.

However, the Japanese will want to banish the memories of their last game in this tournament which saw them go down 5-0 to Norway in the bronze medal match last year.

Tickets for the event are now on sale.

A six-game Team Canada package is available for $35 (£22/€26), including all three of Canada's preliminary round games, Canada's semi-final game, the bronze-medal game and gold-medal game.
