September 4 - Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley has become a Glasgow 2014 Games AmbassadorOlympic diving bronze medallist Tom Daley has been unveiled as the latest and youngest Glasgow 2014 ambassador as initital ticket sales for the Commonwealth Games enter their final week.

Daley, 19, revealed his new role to his 2.4 million followers on Twitter and will be making his first ever visit to Glasgow on Sunday (September 8) to attend an event at the city's historic Fruitmarket, where he will meet fans and talk about his plans for next year's Games, which run from July 23 to August 3.

Glasgow 2014 hopes the appearance of the former world champion will ensure as many young people as possible get involved in the Games before ticket sales close on September 16.

"Tom's the perfect ambassador to inspire young people about sport and help us get everyone involved in the UK's next major sporting celebration," David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014, said.

"We're delighted to welcome him as an official ambassador for the Games and look forward to introducing him to Glasgow this weekend, and working with him over the next year to deliver the friendliest of family-friendly Games."

Tickets for the Games went on sale on August 19 and each of the 17 sports has a minimum entry price of £15 ($23/€17), with 60 per cent of the tickets priced at £25 ($39/€29) or less, and concessions available for under-16s and over-60s at just £7.50 ($11.60/€9.40).

Prices for some of the more popular events such as the men's 100 metres final will cost between £30 ($45/€35) and £90 ($138/€107).

Daley joins Olympic champions Sir Chris Hoy, Rebecca Adlington, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Nicola Adams as Glasgow 2014 official Games ambassadors.

"I'm really looking forward to seeing Glasgow and be a part of the countdown to the Commonwealth Games," said Daley, who won two Commonwealth diving gold medals at Delhi 2010.

"I want everyone to get behind the Games and all the athletes.

"It'll be fun but tough.

"I have great memories of winning gold in Delhi, so I'm totally focused on training and holding on to my title.

"In April, I experienced the enthusiasm of Scottish crowds when I won gold at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh [at the International Aquatics Federation (FINA) World Series], which is the same pool for the Commonwealth Games.

"I can't wait to be back there next year and go for gold again."
