July 18 - International Convention Center JejuThe International Boxing Association (AIBA) has announced that its Congress next year will take place at the International Convention Centre on Jeju Island, South Korea, from November 8 to 15.

The world governing body's Executive Committee made the decision at the conclusion of its latest meeting - in Jeju - which also saw the awarding of the 2015 World Boxing Championships to Qatar's capital, Doha.

"On behalf of the Boxing Association of Korea, I would like to convey my deepest appreciation to the AIBA Executive Committee for its decision to hold the 2014 AIBA Congress in Jeju," said Yoon Seok Chang, President of the Boxing Association of Korea

"I am convinced that this will significantly contribute to the development of the sport of boxing in Korea.

"We are honoured and encouraged by this decision."

The last AIBA Congress took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan in November 2010 where C K Wu, currently an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Presidential candidate, of Chinese Taipei was elected unopposed for a second term as President of the international federation.

The move is a solid indication that feuding between AIBA and South Korea, which was suspended by boxing's world governing body for going against its rules and regulations, has come to an end.

AIBA lifted the ban on South Korea earlier this year following a period of reform and the election of Chang.

"We are delighted to have been nominated as hosts of the 2014 AIBA Congress," Jeju Governor Keun-min Woo said.

"This event will celebrate a new era for the sport of boxing in Korea after a few difficult years.

"We ensure AIBA of our full support to host its 195 National Member Federations in the best possible conditions".
