David Weir at London 2012 before start of raceApril 6 - Britain's David Weir could miss this year's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Athletics Championships in Lyon, it has been reported.

The six-time Paralympic champion wants to concentrate on road racing, the BBC reported.

The 33-year-old Londoner is aiming for a record-breaking seventh victory at the Virgin London Marathon on April 21.

"I want to prove myself on the road more than the track," Weir told BBC Sport.

"I need a year like this where I can pick and choose what races I want and break it up so I can save my body a little bit."

Weir won three gold medals at the last IPC World Championships at Christchurch in 2011, to go with the three gold and silver he had won at Assen in 2006.

If Weir decides to miss the World Championships it would have the added bonus of allowing him to compete in the London Anniversary Games.

A Paralympic competition is due to follow two days of Diamond League athletics at the Olympic Stadium on July 28 but it clashes with the last day of the IPC World Championships, which is scheduled to be the marathon races, an event Weir would start as favourite for.

"It's also about doing what I want to do and not being pressured into doing certain races, so that's why I'm not sure about the Worlds," Weir told BBC Sport.

"I think I need to be out of that high-pressured environment for a while.

"I had London [2012] for seven years on my shoulders.

"As soon as we won the bid the phone was ringing asking, 'How many gold medals are you going to win?', so that's why I'm not too sure about the Worlds."
