Jessica Ennis 040113January 5 - Jessica Ennis has won the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) European Female Athlete of the Year award as Novak Djokovic took the men's title for the second consecutive year


Ennis won gold in the heptathlon at London 2012 with a Commonwealth-best points total of 6,955, adding it to the worldand European titles she had won at Berlin in 2009 and Barcelona in 2010.

She gained 62 votes in the poll, finishing 39 votes ahead of Norwegian cross-country skier Marit Bjoergen in second and 44 ahead of Belarussian tennis star Victoria Azarenka in third.

Djokovic is currently ranked as the world's number one tennis player after winning the Australian Open and reaching the final of the French Open in 2012.

The Serbian claimed 39 votes to put him ahead of British Olympic double-gold medal winning athlete Mo Farah, who received 29 votes, and Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel from Germany, who received 28 votes.
