Amy Swensen 2 040113January 4 - United States hockey goalkeeper Amy Swensen has announced her retirement from the game after featuring in two Olympic Games.


The 32-year-old made her debut for her country in 2001 at the age of 21 and went on to represent the US 163 times, including at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

"My playing career has been such an amazing experience and I am so proud to have represented my country on the field for the last ten years," she said.

"The best moments for me have been the 2006 World Cup, qualifying for the Beijing Olympics, and going to both the Beijing and London Olympics.

"The Olympic Games is the ultimate test of athletic competition and excellence and I am so honoured to have participated in two Games."

Swensen was named as the Samsung World Cup Best Goalkeeper in 2006 and won two silver medals at the Pan-American games with the USA.

Team USA captain Lauren Crandall paid tribute to Swensen, saying: "To have over 160 caps for her country and achieve honours such as 'Best Goalkeeper in the World' she has had an outstanding career and one that we will hold in the highest regard as her team-mates and friends."
