The 26-year-old "Swiss silver bullet", who claimed two silver medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, finished the race in a time of 1 hour 25min 08sec to take first ahead of Japan's Yamamoto Hiroyuki and Hokinoue Kota respectively.

Meanwhile, Swiss veteran racer Heinz Frei finished in fourth place in Oita.

It was a timely boost for Hug (pictured top), who was one of the favourites for the Paralympic marathon crown at London 2012 but was forced to settle for silver behind British rival Dave Weir, who also beat Hug into second in the T54 800 metres final at the Games.

In the women's wheelchair T34/53/54, Japan's Tsuchida Wakako delighted the home crowd as she took the title in a time of 1:43:10.

Canada's Diane Roy finished second in 1:49:30 and America's Amanda McGrory took third with a time of 1:51:57.

In the men's T33/52 class, Japan's Takada Toshihiro finished in a time of 2:00:05 to win the event, with Thailand's Pichaya Kurattanasiri and Spain's Santiago Santz taking second and third respectively.

Japan's Inoue Satoshi was the only competitor in the men's T51 division, finishing in a time of 2:59:13.

The majority of the racers are now set to head to America for the prestigious New York City Marathon on November 4, ahead of the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships next year in Lyon, France.
