Oliver Hynd_Sept_5September 5 - Oliver Hynd stormed to Britain's sixth swimming gold medal of London 2012 Paralympics with a phenomenal win in the 200m individual medley SM8 in a night that saw the hosts claim another six medals here.

With the support of a deafening crowd behind him, the 17-year-old (pictured above and below centre) came from down in the race to take victory in a European record time of 2min 24.63sec as Wang Jiachao (pictured below, left) of China clinched silver, Maurice Deelen (pictured below, right) of the Netherlands secured the bronze position and Hynd's older brother Sam took fourth place.

"I was really happy with that race," said the younger Hynd, who now has a gold, silver and bronze medal from London 2012.

"I also achieved a personal best which is great."

The gold medal in the first race of the evening in a lively Aquatics Centre signalled the start of another medal rush for the ParalympicsGB swimming team with a further five coming.

Two of those came in the 100m breaststroke SB6 as Charlotte Henshaw and Elizabeth Johnson claimed silver and bronze respectively.

It could have been even better as Henshaw looked set for victory but the Mansfield swimmer was just pipped to the title by three-hundredths of a second by Ukraine's Viktoriia Savtsova (pictured below), who set a new Paralympic record.

Louise Watkin also missed out on gold by fractions as the 20-year-old was beaten in the 50m freestyle S9 by China's Lin Ping, who touched home less than a tenth of a second quicker.

Australia's Ellie Cole took bronze while South African star Natalie du Toit finished seventh in an event that is one of her weakest.
