Terezinha Guilhermina_celebratesJuly 16 - Brazilian Paralympic sprinting star Terezinha Guilhermina has broken the T11 200 metres world record.

The visually impaired runner (pictured above, second right) completed the race at the Sports Complex in Ibirapuera in a time of 24.60sec, breaking the time of 24.67 she set earlier this year in Mexico City.

After her latest record-breaking run, she said: "I am very happy with the result.

"I believed and it happened...I'll save the 100 for London," she promised.

Guilhermina was taking part in the Nacional do Circuito Loterias Caixa event in Brazil, a major national Paralympic event.

More than 700 competitors are taking part in the event from Brazil and other countries such as Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia.

Sixty of Brazil's 182 Paralympians are among those in action.

Guilhermina also holds the world records in the 100m and 400m, and her run underlines her status as a strong favourite to claim a gold medal in London this summer.

Guilhermina won the 200m gold in Beijing four years ago, and went on to win another four golds at last year's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Athletics Championship in Christchurch, New Zealand.

She also won another three golds at last year's Parapan American Games in Guadalajara to underline her status as one of Brazil's leading Paralympians.
