hollie arnold_29-06-12June 28 - Britain ensured they will head into the London 2012 Paralympics in good form as they bagged four medals on the final day of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) European Athletics Championships in Stadskanaal, the Netherlands.

The collection of four consisted of two silver medals, which were won by Hollie Arnold (pictured above) and Paul Blake, and two bronze medals from Claire Williams and Kyron Duke.

Arnold's silver came in impressive fashion in the F46 javelin as she threw 35.54 metres to finish behind Natalia Gudkova of Russia, who took the title with a throw of 38.46m.

"I've recently changed my run up and it was a good opportunity to come out here and give it a go," Arnold said.

"I've definitely come a long way, but I want more."

Meanwhile, Blake took his silver medal as he finished second in the T36 400m final in 55.30sec behind Russia's Evgenii Shvetov with another Russian, Artem Arefyev, taking the bronze.

"It would have been nice to win but I'm happy with my performances over the course of the week," said Blake.

"It's been a great opportunity to come out and race against my main competitors and I'm happy overall."

Williams (pictured below) took her bronze in the F11/12 discus with a throw of 36.20m as Tamara Sivakova of Belarus won the title, while Duke won bronze in the men's F40 shot put with a throw of 10.73m in an event won by Paschalis Stathelikos of Greece in a world record of 13.01m.

Following the competition, Britain's team leader Paula Dunn admitted the event had been an important step on the road to the London 2012 Paralympics, despite a number of top stars such as double Paralympic champion Dave Weir not being at the event.

"This has been a really important stepping stone for us," Dunn said.

"In contrast to a lot of events we compete in, this week wasn't just about winning medals, it was about taking opportunities and using them for maximum benefit.

"For some of the athletes, such as 15-year-old Olivia Breen who was making her debut, it was a learning experience and she did brilliantly.

"For others it was about putting a marker down and building confidence before the Paralympic Games.

"Overall we've enjoyed successful Championships with one world record [by Richard Whitehead], several personal best performances and 28 medals in total.

"Now we can get back into some solid training and prepare for London which is just two months away."

The meet saw Russia finished atop the medals table with 29 gold and 76 overall medals.

Ukraine was second with 17 gold and 41 overall medals, while Germany came third with 14 gold and 29 overall medals.
