April 28 - Brazilian sprint star Terezinha Guilhermina (pictured top right) continued her build up to London 2012 with a stunning 200 metres race at the Abierto Mexicano Athletics competition in Mexico City, where she shattered the world record with a time of 24.67sec.

The Beijing 2008 gold medallist beat the previous record by 0.07, sealing a superb event with victories in the 100m and 400m.

Brazil's national Paralympic coordinator Cyrus Winckler said: "Our athletes are in a very strong pace of preparation.

"We chose Mexico because it is a track that favours our sprinters.

"The thin air requires a little more physical [work], but in return offers a performance gain relative to local sea level, for example.

"The final balance was very positive, we expect [to achieve] even more [in] London."

Daniel Silva also enjoyed success in Mexico after winning the 100m and 200m with times of 11.55 and 23.69 respectively.

Meanwhile, a Brazilian swimming star making waves in Africa was Daniel Dias, claiming three gold medals in the South Africa National Aquatic Championships in Durban.

The triple Paralympic gold medallist won the 100m backstroke, the 50m butterfly and 200m medley.

Dias, a winner of the Laureus Sportsperson with a Disability of the Year award in 2009, won six gold medals last year at the Parapan American Games.

Dias and Guilhermina will be among Brazil's leading Paralympic contenders keen to surpass the country's haul of 16 gold, 14 silver and 17 bronze medals from Beijing 2008 – four of which were won by Dias.
