July 18 - Goals by Susie Gilbert and Crista Cullen (pictured) saw England come from behind to beat Germany 2-1 in the bronze medal play-off at the Champions Trophy in Nottingham today.

Maike Stockel gave the Germans an early lead before Gilbert and Cullen translated England's domination into victory as they claimed their first-ever Champions Trophy medal.

It was England's first bronze medal match and they attacked from the off but despite the good start, they went a goal down after nine minutes.

Germany captain Tina Bachmann found Eileen Hoffmann in the English circle and Hoffman's flick-on sat up perfectly for Stockel to volley home past Beth Storry at chest height.

Germany had gone into the match still unhappy about a disallowed effort in Tuesday's (July 13) pool match, which England won 2-1, and following the goal they increased the pressure.

The hosts stepped up a gear at the start of the second half and it paid off when Gilbert volleyed home from Cullen's penalty corner.

Cullen then scored what turned out to be the winner when her penalty corner strike went through the legs of German keeper Barbara Vogel.

Head coach Danny Kerry said: "I thought there was only one team in it; although we lost a scrappy goal, it was only a matter of time before we scored.

"To be that convincing today was very rewarding for all of the time and energy the girls have put in."

Argentina won Trophy for the third straight year, beating Olympic and world champion Netherlands 4-2.

Argentina's Noel Barrionuevo scored the tournament's first hat-trick.
