The Olympic flame is scheduled to arrive in the French port of Marseille on Wednesday 8 May, and is expected to be greeted by a crowd of up to 150,000 spectators, marking the inaugural significant trial of the extensive plans for the Paris Games.

With the arrival of the Olympic flame in Marseille on Wednesday, France is entering a period of heightened security and tension that will culminate in the Opening Ceremony on 26 July in Paris and continue for days after the end of the thirty-third Olympic Games of the modern era.

After disembarking in Marseille from Olympia,Greece this Wednesday, 8 May, the Olympic flame will travel throughout France, including overseas territories, for 80 days until arriving in Paris for the opening ceremony of the Games on 26 July.
