Creative_Sports_AwardJanuary 11 - The Creative Sports Award has been presented to the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) for its work organising the Schools Olympic Programme (SOP).


Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, handed the honour to Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the QOC's secretary general at a special ceremony (pictured).

The function was also attended by Khaled Hamad Al Mohannadi, assistant secretary general for technical support, Khaleel Ibrahim Al Jaber, director of sport affairs at the QOC, and Hassan Abdulla Al Mohammadi, head of media.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Al Thani received the Arab Sports Personality of 2010 as a chairman of Qatar's successful 2022 World Cup Bid Committee.

The Arab Creative Coach Award went to Jama Mohammad Aden.

The Deputy Ruler of Dubai gave awards to 18 sports personalities and institutions representing the United Arab Emirates and the surrounding Arab region.

The winners were selected from 132 submissions from 16 countries.

The Schools Olympic Programme is a special project and the brainchild of Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, who is also QOC President.

It is an annual event organised by the QOC and the Supreme Education Council, in accordance and alliance with other governmental organisations.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) also appreciated and recognised the concept of SOP.

The vision is to inspire the young generation in Qatar to participate in sport and adopt and live healthy lifestyles and create an event to educate, engage and influence young athletes, inspiring them to play an active role in the local community.

The ongoing fourth (2010-2011) edition is themed Sport and Education.
