GE_and_British_Triathlon_logoDecember 22 - GE, one of the worldwide sponsors of the London 2012 Olympics, have given a huge boost to the British Paratriathlon team by revealing that they will be providing their world leading healthcare technology and expertise in the build up to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Paratriathlon, along with canoeing, was added to the sports programme at the Rio 2016 Games by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board earlier this month and the British Paratriathlon team already look set to be major medal contenders at the debut event in Brazil with might of GE behind them.

In April this year, GE announced a new partnership with British Triathlon which sees them provide state-of-the-art medical imaging equipment for the early diagnosis and treatment of sporting injuries.

The British Paratriathletes are now also set to receive the benefits of the partnership as a GE spokesperson told insideworldparasport: "GE is extremely pleased that Paratriathlon has been recognised as a Paralympic sport.

"As the elite partner of the GE GB Paratriathlon Team, which includes many European and world champions, we know how much dedication and skill is involved to get to the top level of their sport.

"GE are working with British Triathlon to ensure that their athletes have access to GE's healthcare imaging technology to diagnose, prevent and treat injury.

"GE already had a strong affiliation with British Paratriathletes even before the sport was inducted into the Paralympic Games with some of the current squad working as GE ambassadors.

"Two of the current Paratriathlon squad, Clare Cunningham and Jimmy Goddard (pictured), are GE ambassadors, and they and British Triathlon are helping us develop plans to attract more people into Paratriathlon at the top-level," continued the GE spokesperson.

"We're also working with Jimmy on a STEMNET challenge for students aged 11-14 to design him a wetsuit for training and competing in.

"We look forward to working with the Paratriathlon team now and in the build-up to medals in Rio 2016."

The Paratriathlon event at Rio 2016 is set to be one of the most iconic events at the Games as is likely to start on the world famous Copacabana beach and show off some off the most attractive parts of the city.
