May 8 - Germany's Jan Frodeno (pictured) and Switzerland's Daniela Ryf of Switzerland won the second leg of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship in Seoul today.

Frodeno, the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalist, sprinted away Australia's from Courtney Atkinson near the finish line after running side-by-side for most of the 10 kilometres run, winning the men's race in 1 hour 51min 49sec.

Atkinson, who finished 11th in Beijing, was one second back. Brad Kahlefeldt of Australia was third in 1:52:17 in a race missing defending champion, Britain's Alistair Brownlee, who is still recovering from a stress fracture.

"I had a bit of confidence in my sprint," Frodeno said.

"It was a nice long finishing straight, which really played into my favour."

Ryf won the women's race in 2:00:59, beating world number Barbara Riveros Diaz of Chile and reigning world champion Emma Moffatt of Australia.

"I was really suffering toward the end," Ryf said.

"I'm so surprised I was able to pull it out.

"I just tried to focus on my technique to keep it together at the end."

Riveros Diaz, who won the opening race in Sydney last month, was three seconds behind.

"My goal is to be consistent this year, so I'm very happy with my result today," Riveros Diaz said.

"I just have to keep working hard and remember that it's a year-long process."

Moffatt, the Beijing bronze medalist, was two seconds behind the Chilean.

Britain’s Will Clarke and Helen Jenkins, meanwhile, both recorded top ten finishes.

Jenkins finished ninth, 45 seconds behind Ryf (pictured), recording her best result of the season so far.

Vicky Holland finished 19th, Hollie Avil was 22nd and Kerry Lang finished 26th.

Clarke finished tenth, one place ahead of former world champion, Tim Don.

Olly Freeman finished 16th in his first start for 11 months

Britain's head coach Joel Filliol said: "It was encouraging for Jenkins’ to move on from her season debut in Sydney, and bodes well for her progression towards the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships, London in July.

"With all three GB males finishing in the top 16, it was an encouraging start to the 2010 campaign in a very competitive field.

"The team now moves on to the next event in Madrid on 5-6 June, where they will be looking to move up the rankings toward to major events of the season."
