It has been sensibly pointed out that there are - issues - involved in describing what began as the British Empire Games and evolved into the Commonwealth Games as "The Friendly Games."

Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) chief executive Brian MacPherson has led the congratulations to the family of Melville Marks "Bobby" Robinson, the founder of the British Empire Games, now known as the Commonwealth Games, who has been inducted into the Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame.

He was a champion of local farmers, a newspaper man who left school at 13 and worked his way up, a lover of athletics who founded a prestigious club and became Canada’s Olympic team manager, a man who would never take "No" for an answer, and who could not stand arrogant Americans. 

So Birmingham - a belatedly willing and patently capable bidder to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games - has finally had its wish. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has finally crossed all its T's, dotted all its I's and confirmed this English bidder as the official replacement for the original planned host, Durban.
