The World Rowing Federation (FISA) has said it is "pleased" with the results of a health survey from August’s Junior World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, which is said to show that incidences of illness were much lower than previous years.

Swimming’s world governing body, FINA, has strongly criticised the organisers of the Rio 2016 Olympics, accusing them of showing “disrespect” for their requirements by providing substandard facilities and failing to act on warnings about the hazardous nature of the open water swimning venue at Copacabana beach and nearby open-air venues for diving, water polo and synchronised swimming.

Rowing could still appear at future editions of the Commonwealth Games after officials here promised to continue negotiations to discuss adding it to its list of optional sports. 

Olympic rowers have been given an all-clear to compete at the Rio 2016 Games following the release of a report by International Rowing Federation (FISA) into pollution levels at the venue.

Para-rowers have become the latest participants in the Proud Paralympian pilot education programme which took place from May 8 to 10 at Gavirate, Italy.
