Daniela Bauer has appealed to CAS after her non-selection for the Austrian team at Sochi 2014 ©Getty ImagesFebruary 2 - A selection row involving the Austrian Ski Federation (ASF) and halfpipe freestyle skier Daniela Bauer has become the first case taken to the special ad-hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) here.

Despite not being selected for the team, Bauer claims she met all of the International Skiing Federation (FIS) qualification requirements and a quota place was made available for her.

This comes after the 27-year-old recorded two top 20 finishes in World Cup events last month - at Breckenridge and Calgary - and placed 20th at the 2013 World Championships in Norway.

Austria, who won 16 medals at Vancouver 2010, including four golds, but took only one silver medal in freestyle skiing, has named an 11-strong freestyle squad for Sochi but opted to not select anyone for the women's halfpipe, despite securing a quota position.

In a letter released today, it was revealed Bauer has requested that the CAS order both the ASF and the Austrian Olympic Committee to add her to the Olympic team.

A CAS Panel composed of Switerland's Patrick Lafranchi, Canada's Robert Décary and the United States' Matthew Mitten has been constituted - with a hearing to be held tomorrow.

A final decision is likely to be announced on Tuesday (February 4).

Although this marks the first case in Sochi, there have been several other selection rows necessitating CAS involvement in the build-up to the Games, including a dispute over the Australian women's figure skating team last November.

After Brooklee Han was originally selected for the sole slot, rival Chantelle Kerry challenged that Han should be ineligible because she had entered a qualification event in Germany without the approval of the national federation.

This claim was dismissed by CAS in December with Han's place in the team confirmed.
