The Briton, who won the first race of the season in Lake Placid before missing the second in Calgary and finishing runner-up in the third in Alternburg, was dominant this time around, posting the fastest times on both runs to finish with a total of 1min 44.24sec

It represented a remarkable turnaround after the Briton finished ninth, 11th and 14th on her last three World Cup outings at Königssee.

She was 0.71 seconds faster than nearest challenger and home favourite, 2008 world champion Anja Huber-Selbach, who secured a first podium-finish of the season before announcing it would be her last competitive race on the track.

Maria Olova, the Russian who defeated Yarnold last time in Altenberg, placed third.

"I've done it eventually," the winner said afterwards.

"Königssee is such a hard track, it's taken me six years but I've finally done it.

"I did not know it was Anja's last race on this track, she is one of the legends of the sport who has always pushed me on."

Another German, Tina Hermann, leads the World Cup standings after four races with 760 points, with compatriot Sophia Griebel second and Janine Flock of Austria third. 

Partly because she missed one of the stages, Yarnold is down in fifth place, one place behind Huber-Selbach in fourth.

The women will next compete in St Moritz on January 23, with the men due to race in Königssee tomorrow.
