Mellisa Hollingsworth, the Olympic bronze medallist in 2006 and twice a World Cup series winner, has gone on record as saying she likes the run in La Plagne, despite describing it as "very difficult and steep".

It certainly worked out for the 31-year-old Canadian this time as victory in the Savoie region, following third place at the opening World Cup in Igls, moved her into the overall lead, 32 points clear of Russia's Olga Potylitsina, the winner at Igls who took second position after finishing seventh at the weekend.

Germany's experienced and consistent performer Anja Huber – fourth in both events so far – is third in the standings. Britain's Olympic silver medallist from 2006, Shelly Rudman, is in overall fifth place with 360 points.

The third World Cup is due to be held at Winterburg on December 16.
