Britain's Jodie Stimpson crosses the line to win her second consecutive ITU World Series race ©ITU April 26 - Great Britain duo Jodie Stimpson and Helen Jenkins secured a one-two finish at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Series victory Cape Town.

The cold conditions meant the swim leg was shortened to just one lap of 750 metres at the V&A Waterfront, with Lucy Hall pushing the British women on to help the lead group of 12 establish an advantage through the cycle, which saw them open a two-minute gap heading into the final transition.

Stimpson and Jenkins then hit the front on the run and it was Stimpson who finishing strongly over the final kilometre to record a second straight series win in 1 hour 46min 11, seven seconds ahead of her team-mate.

American Gwen Jorgensen was third.

The victory for Stimpson cements her place at the top of the world rankings following her win in Auckland earlier this month, with compatriot Jenkins second - the 12th time in her career that she has finished on the podium at a World Series event.

"Lucy Hall was absolutely amazing on that bike today, so was Helen, so was Vicky, the GB girls were definitely strong out there," said Stimpson.

"When Helen passed me it was all about trying to hang on.

"I tried to break her going on to the last lap and I couldn't, so I sat back behind and then I gave it all I had got and I managed to come out on top."

Jenkins, though, was frustrated that the swim discipline had been shortened.

"I was disappointed it was only one lap in the swim," said the 2008 and 2011 world champion.

"The cold water doesn't really bother me, I'm from Wales, the water is cold.

"But we had a really good group on the bike, the girls really committed.

"It just shows what you can do when everyone commits."

Tomorrow Britiain's London 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Jonathan Brownlee will be out to close the gap on current 2014 ITU World Triathlon Series leader Javier Gomez of Spain.
