124982045April 26 - President of Rugby Union Russia (RUR), Vyacheslav Kopiev, has spoken of Moscow's commitment to delivering a world-class Rugby World Cup Sevens in the summer and the opportunity to entice more people from the country to get involved in the sport that will make its debut at Rio 2016.

Speaking at a reception held by Russian Ambassador to London, Alexander Yakovenko, Kopiev spoke of how the event will showcase the best that the city of Moscow has to offer, as well as rugby sevens.

"Rugby World Sevens 2013 promises to be a celebration of rugby and citizens around Moscow and the whole of Russia are looking forward to welcoming players, coaches, fans and officials from the world with open arms." he said.

"Russia is a passionate and proud Olympic and rugby nation and Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 will hopefully inspire a new generation of rugby players around the country to start playing ahead of Rio 2016."

Kopiev insisted that planning was on schedule for the event during his speech, and he was confident of Russia's ability to host a successful tournament.

"Plans are well advanced with Government authorities and major private sector companies to ensure significant community ticket programmes both within Moscow and regionally in Russia," he said.

"This will create a real buzz around the tournament and play a major role in introducing a new generation of young people to the sport of rugby.

"Alongside Rugby World Cup Ltd and the Russian Government, the RUR is committed to delivering an exciting event, which will feature the biggest stars in world Rugby, outstanding entertainment and the very best of Russian hospitality.

"I am confident that Russia 2013 will be a resounding success and help open up a new and important rugby frontier."

The 2013 World Cup Sevens is due be played at the iconic Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow over the weekend of June 28 until 30.
