Pentathlon_GB_logoDecember 23 - Pentathlon GB is seeking a new chief executive to take over from interim CEO Peter King and lead the organisation up to and beyond London 2012, with all applicants having until January 5.

The specification for a job, which was first advertised on insidethegames, with a "competitive" salary seeks a candidate with proven leadership, strategic, financial and operational experience who has the ability to delegate and to work closely with a Board.

The successful candidate will work from the Pentathlon GB office in Bath but can expect to travel widely.

King, who helped guide British Cycling from the verge of bankruptcy to being Britain's most successful sport in the space of just over a decade before stepping down after the 2008 Olympics, was brought in by Pentathlon GB on November 18 following the departure of Peter Hart.

Having spent eight years in the post, Hart left to take up a role with the London 2012 organisation with responsibility for organising the next Olympic modern pentathlon competition.

"The CEO will be responsible for achieving challenging targets for 2012 and beyond across the whole range of the sport's interests, from grassroots to podium success," says the Pentathlon GB job specification.

"The CEO will also be accountable for ensuring the highest standards of governance in the sport."

Whoever takes over permanently will oversee a sport which has seen membership rise dramatically over the last eight years from 1,500 to 6,700.
