Modern pentathlonOctober 19 - Modern pentathlon's approach to the Rio 2016 Olympics will be one of the main points of discussion when the 64th Congress of the sport's world governing body, the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM), takes place in Buenos Aires today and tomorrow.

"UIPM is proud and happy, that we could finish our process of modernising our sport in the year 2012 which was our 100-year anniversary of being in the Olympic Games," the UIPM President, Klaus Schormann, said.

"This 64th congress will focus mainly on development and the important steps linked to the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and on promotional activities for our wonderful, historical sport."

There are several key motions being proposed by the UIPM Executive Board to continue the development of the sport and to continue its substantial international growth achieved in the past four years.

Delegates from all continents will attend the congress, at which all Executive Board members and committees are up for re-election for their next four-year terms.

The congress will also act as a celebration of the highly successful 2012 London Olympic Games, which modern pentathlon received a record amount of media attention and attendance at the 100 years of modern pentathlon being within the Olympic Movement.
