The Kenyan women claimed victory on home soil in Nairobi thanks to a 1-0 win against Ghana, when Jacqueline Jow Wangeci scored the only goal of the game, and a 22-0 triumph over Tanzania, where Pauline Naise Amitebi netted seven times to finish as tournament top scorer.

Egypt's men came into their competition in Nairobi and cemented their reputation as favourites with wins in all three of their matches against hosts Kenya, Ghana and Tanzania to move into Round Two.

Meanwhile in Dhaka, hosts Bangladesh also lived up to their favourites tag to advance in the tournament, recording a winning score of 3-2 over Sri Lanka and another win of 3-1 over Hong Kong.

Sri Lanka also secured one victory by overcoming Hong Kong 6-1 thanks to goals from Dhammika Ranasinga, Prasanna Dissanayaka, Sadaruwan Pritalanka, Lakshan Nanayakkara and Mohomad Mulafar.

Finally, Azerbaijan's men took first place at the Hockey World League Round One tournament in Muscat ahead of hosts Oman.

The winners started their campaign with a 3-3 draw against Iran, who took an extra point from the match thanks to a 3-0 win in the shoot-out, before the Azerbaijanis claimed a 2-1 win over Oman and completed a 12-0 thrashing of Thailand.

Oman did manage to claim three points from their 1-0 win over Iran but still trailed one point behind overall leaders Azerbaijan as the competition came to a close.

The four nations will now compete in Round Two with the hope of making it to Round Three, where Rio 2016 Olympic qualification and spots in the Hockey World League Final is up for grabs.

The men's Round Two matches are scheduled to take place in Singapore on January 17 to 25, the United States from February 28 to March 8 and South Africa on March 7 to 15 next year, while the women's games will be staged in Uruguay from February 28 to March 8, India on March 7 to 15 and Ireland on March 14 to 22.
