The final countdown to the London 2015 EuroHockey Championships has begun ©England HockeyThe final countdown to the London 2015 EuroHockey Championships has begun with exactly a year to go until the competition gets underway.

European hockey's flagship tournament, featuring the top eight men's and top eight women's teams from across the continent, including both England teams, is due to take place at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on the city's iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, where London 2012 was staged.

During EuroHockey, which is scheduled for August 21 to 30 next year, the area surrounding the park will be transformed into a Hockey Fan Park for all ages.

Tickets, which are available in sessions and start from only £1 ($1.66/€1.25) for children, went on sale last month and London 2015 has said they are already selling very quickly.

"We're very excited about the EuroHockey Championships 2015 and the positive impact it will have for hockey not only in England but globally," Andy Tapley, chairman of the EuroHockey Championships 2015 board, said.

"Planning for the event is going very well, and [with tickets] having gone on sale last month we now have confirmation of the extremely high levels of interest we have in EuroHockey 2015 from the hockey following around Europe.

"Added to this is the support from general sports and event fans in the UK after hockey's prominence in the 2012 Olympics and this summer's Commonwealth Games, showcasing what an exciting sport hockey is to watch."

To mark today's milestone ahead of EuroHockey 2015, the tournament's website was updated with new pages, including an "Understanding Hockey" section to enable newcomers to the sport to learn more about hockey and get the most out of the competition.

The last edition of the Championships, which took place in Boom, Belgium, in 2013 and saw Germany win both the men's and women's titles, attracted a television audience of 105 million viewers, who tuned into the 230 hours of coverage across the United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands and beyond.
