Denmark plans to host the 2019 Men’s Handball World Championship at the Copenhagen ArenaSeptember 25 - Denmark has officially launched a bid today to host the 2019 International Handball Federation (IHF) men's World Championship.

The nation, which is due to host the women's world tournament in 2015, says the bid concept, presented to the IHF earlier this month, "shows a handball passionate nation" whose experience and investments provide opportunities for the sport.

The bid team cites the capital's upcoming 12,500 capacity Copenhagen Arena, which is set to open in 2015, as the venue for the 2019 finals the nation.

"The 2019 IHF Handball World Championship is a chance for us to share our strong handball culture with the international handball community," said Sport Event Denmark chief executive Lars Lundov.

"The World Championship is a very important event and with our expanding international sports events portfolio, we will use our experience to ensure the further development and expansion of handball leading up to 2019 and well beyond."

Earlier this month, Denmark, which hosted the 1978 edition of the World Championships, was revealed as one of seven nations interested in bidding for handball's flagship men's event in 2019, alongside Germany, Sweden, Norway, Poland, and a joint bid from Slovakia and Hungary.

But the Danes believe their history of hosting major international sports events gives them the upper hand to secure the tournament.

"The existing experience and investments of Denmark in handball, give way for future opportunities to expand and develop the sport," Danish Handball Association President Per Bertelsen explained.

"Through new communication strategies, fans from all over the world will be able to get involved.

"After almost 40 years, we look forward to inviting the world to come to Denmark again and share this experience."

The bid team are due to give a technical presentation to the IHF on October 11, ahead of the final presentation and election of the host city on October 28 in Doha, Qatar.
