The tale in the Turkish city of Izmir has been of a tussle between Russian teenagers Margarita Mamun and Yana Kudryavtseva.

And with three gold medals up for grabs, the pair were in peerless form.

First, it was the clubs final, in which 16-year-old Kudryavtseva was the defending champion.

Her 18.750 points narrowly bettered that of her team mate and rival Mamun, who scored 18.650.

Ukraine's Ganna Rizatdinova scored 18.000 for bronze.

The Russian teenagers, who two days ago had shared gold in the ball final, before Kudryavtseva won gold for her hoop routine, were once again head-to-head for ribbon honours.

Mamun, performing to Giselle, spun and threw and caught her way to 18.566, well above Kudryavsteva's 18.183.

Rizatdinova was once again best of the rest, scoring 17.766.

Kudryavtseva, Mamun and Aleksandra Soldatova, joined forced to win the team competition, Russia's third gold of the day and fifth from five.

Their score of 147.914 far exceeded that of Belarus, who with Melitina Staniouta, Katsiaryna Halkina and Arina Charopa scored 136.073.

Bronze went to Ukraine's Rizatdinova, Viktoriia Mazur and Eleonora Romanova, with 133.939.

Action continues in Izmir tomorrow with the all-around final.
