Ryder_Cup_logo_2014February 1 - The launch of a new unified Ryder Cup logo (pictured) has spurred on Scotland's efforts to deliver the best ever Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014.

Team Scotland have launched their Ryder Cup 2014 website along with a specially created film around the "Home of Golf" and an online game where people can get a taste of the famous PGA Centenary course.

Spearheaded by EventScotland, VisitScotland, Gleneagles and the Scottish Government, over the next few years the team will work with a wide range of partners to engage the community and create far-reaching benefits from the event before, during and after the stars of golf compete in Perthshire.

Paul Bush, chief operating officer for EventScotland, said: "The new Ryder Cup logo gives everyone a renewed focus around what is set to be an amazing event for Scotland and everyone involved.

"Scotland is renowned for its golfing pedigree and we need to ensure that when we welcome the world, this reputation is delivered upon."

Golf tourism is already a major income generator for the country and VisitScotland is focusing its efforts to ensure golf enthusiasts are eager to savour the Ryder Cup.

VisitScotland's chief executive Malcolm Roughead said: "The Ryder Cup offers Scotland a tremendous opportunity to enhance our reputation as the home of golf.

"This is the year of Active Scotland, giving us a great platform to showcase Scotland as the best destination in the world to enjoy golf.

"From championship courses to stunning links courses on the islands, playing golf in Scotland is a magical experience that cannot be bettered anywhere in the world.

"Our marketing in the lead-up to The Ryder Cup will inspire golfers from around the world to experience Scottish golf for themselves."

Gleneagles is also hard at work preparing the course and ongoing development of the facilities, to maintain its world-class reputation.

Alterations to some holes on the PGA Centenary course have been made in the last few months while more are in the pipeline.

The original designer, 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, is back on board to oversee and approve the partial redevelopment of the 7,262-yard course.

Managing director of the Gleneagles Hotel, Patrick Elsmie, said: "I have no doubt golf in Scotland will be given a huge boost when the matches are contested on the PGA Centenary course.

"At Gleneagles we continually strive to improve all aspects of our golf experience and very much look forward to showcasing Scotland's finest golf facilities to both players and spectators from around the world."
