With just nine days to go before the tournament kicks off in Brazil, FIFA says the extra tickets are being put on sale "due to the release of buffers in some stadiums following their delivery".

All 12 World Cup stadiums were handed over to football's governing body and the Local Organising Committee at the end of last month, having originally been given a deadline of December 31 for completion.

That means the exact configuration of many of the stadiums has only now been worked out.

The 180,000 tickets will go on sale at midnight Brasilia Standard Time.

They will be sold on a first come, first served basis via www.FIFA.com/tickets.

Tickets can also be bought at the 12 Venue Ticketing Centres in Brazil from 9am local time tomorrow, until the end of the tournament on July 13.

FIFA said it is releasing the majority of tickets previously reserved for spectators with reduced mobility, saying there has been "very little demand for the seats" in 10 months of sale.

But some of these seats will remain reserved.

A FIFA spokesman said: "Fans are reminded that even after the June 4 release, additional tickets might become available through FIFA´s official resale platform which is used by ticket holders to resell their tickets."

There are still unsold tickets at some games available to buy ahead of tonight's release.

The tournament kicks off on June 12 when hosts Brazil play Croatia in São Paulo.
