More than six million requests for tickets were made for the 2014 World CupOctober 10 - More than six million requests for tickets were made for the 2014 FIFA World Cup during the first application process that ended today, it was claimed.


A total of 6,164,682 requests came in from 203 countries, with more the 70 per cent coming from host nation Brazil.

Due to the high demand, which is thought to be double the total available, FIFA will conduct a random selection draw to allocate the tickets.

A total of 726,067 ticket requests were made for Brazil's opening game in São Paulo on June 12, and 751,165 for the final in the Maracanã Stadium on July 13, with only 80,000 seats available for each.

Applicants will be informed by November 4 via SMS or email, whether or not their application was successful.

Those tickets not allocated will go on sale again on the November 5 on a first come first serve basis.

The highest number of ticket applications came from residents in Brazil with 4,368,029, next highest was America who requested a total of 375,065 and Argentina on 266,937.

A total of 96,780 requests were made from residents living in England.

Each applicant could request up to four tickets per match for a maximum of seven matches.
