Mohammed (pictured) was accused earlier this month of embezzling money at Sodecoton, the state-owned cotton development company.

But he still easily won the election - even though he was in the Kondengui maximum security prison in Yaoundé when it took place - and was congratulated by FIFA President Sepp Blatter for extending his 15 year reign as President. 

Cameroon's Ethics and Fair Play Commission has now invalidated the vote after Fecafoot vice-president John Begheni Ndeh complained that the process had been illegal, which could lead to FIFA stepping in and suspending Fecafoot because of the Government interference. 

State auditors claim Sodecoton lost millions of dollars when Mohammed was the managing director.

Prosecutors have warned he could be held for up to six months before trial while investigations continue.


But Blatter is standing firmly behind Mohammed.

"Your election is a clear vote of confidence on your capacity from the Cameroon football community and I hope to use our friendship and excellent collaboration to ameliorate good governance," Blatter wrote in his letter.

"I am convinced that your rich experience, knowledge and personal qualities would have a tremendous impact on the stable development of our sport in Cameroon."

Until Mohammed earns his freedom, his deputy Alim Konate - who represented him in the election - will run Fecafoot.
