The Princess, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee, received overwhelming support in a vote by the FEI General Assembly today in Taipei, and was given a standing ovation as she accepted the role for another four years.

From 124 possible votes, 90 national federations backed Princess Haya, 23 voted for Sweden's Sven Holmberg and 11 voted for Holland's Henk Rottinghuis.

One federation abstained.

"Thank you all for your confidence and trust, I promise I won't let you down," she said.

"I promise to unify this federation, work for the national federations and to constantly appreciate your needs, and do all that I can do service this board.

"I never realised how many supporters I had and am truly humbled by all that you've done for me."

More than 80 per cent of the deliverables outlined in her original manifesto were implemented in her first term, claimed Princess Haya, the daughter of the late King Hussein of Jordan and who is now married to Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai.

These included significant improvements in communications, marketing, animal welfare, FEI finances, grassroots development and liaison with national federations, she said.

In her first act in office, she also initiated a reform that established a two-term of four-year limit for the Presidency.

Looking ahead, in addition to plans to build on and consolidate her first term accomplishments, Princess Haya has presented numerous new ideas among her second-term pledges.

These include the development of equestrian sport in unison with the National Federations and Athletes, while respecting good governance and strong values that celebrate the horse and horsemanship.
