The boxing career of Sarita Devi (left) is over, according to AIBA President C K Wu ©Getty ImagesSarita Devi, the Indian boxer who refused to accept her Asian Games bronze medal in Incheon, has jeopardised her whole career, International Boxing Association President C K Wu warned here today.

Devi was upset after controversially losing her semi-final to South Korea's Park Ji-na in the women's lightweight division and made her feelings known during a public protest on the medal podium.

"It was totally unacceptable behaviour," Wu said here on the eve of the AIBA Congress, which starts tomorrow.

"I think her boxing career is finished.

"The [AIBA] Disciplinary Commission is examining the case.

"They will give the final decision shortly.

"There will be zero tolerance."

The 29-year-old Devi, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist at Glasgow 2014, apologised following the incident.

But last month AIBA suspended her for an indefinite period, meaning she will miss the Women's World Boxing Championships, due to start in Jeju City on Sunday (November 16).

Devi had won a World Championship gold medal in 2006 and a bronze in 2005 and 2008 and was considered one of India's main hopes for an Olympic medal at Rio 2016.

Her coach Gurbakhsh Singh Sandhu and Indian Chef de Mission Adille J Sumariwalla have also been disciplined by AIBA and face bans.

"Every athlete should fully respect the decisions of referees and judges.," said Wu.

"So this boxer is facing very severe punishment.

"She has damaged her own country, India has been damaged."
