This season's World Series of Boxing, won by Cuba  Domadores, has been considered a success ©WSB Franchises from China, Morocco and Venezuela will be added to the World Series of Boxing (WSB) next season, it was revealed here today.


News of their addition - to take the total number of franchises to 15 - was announced by International Boxing Association (AIBA) President C K Wu at the WSB Post-Season IV Franchise Conference.

This two-day Conference, attended by franchises from four continents, was staged to coincide with the final of this year's WSB, won by Cuba Domadores following a sudden-death bout against Azerbaijan Baku Fires at the end of what was widely regarded as the best season since the competition launched in 2010.

"The WSB programme has overall significantly improved and expanded throughout these four seasons, and the great support from all franchises and participating National Federations in this continuous development have been the keys to this success", staid Wu.

In the course of the Conference, the WSB team presented the overall evaluation of the Season IV emphasising on the matters to be improved by the next season.

The second part of the Conference was dedicated to the upcoming Season V, including a new competition format and schedules which is due to start in January 2015. 

More details of the new franchises are due to be revealed later this year. 

The draw for the new season is due to be made at the AIBA Executive Committee meeting in Istanbul on July 16. 

In addition, new public relations and marketing strategies and plans were discussed to enhance the overall revenues for the franchises and WSB.

One of the most important issues to agree was the overall improvement of the quality of television production.

All host broadcasters in hosting franchise countries will work closely with WSB in order to provide the best quality of television programme for the success of WSB Season V.

In addition, all foreign boxers will be selected via boxers' draft due to the Olympic qualifying process, which is set to be revolutionised in October by the official launch of the AIBA Pro Boxing.

The three new franchises will add to teams based in Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and United States.
