Evans, 23, who won silver in the welterweight division at London 2012, admitted assaulting Sam Robinson at the Legs 11 lap-dancing club in Birmingham on February 23, after he and friend Danny Butler, 20, became involved in an argument with Robinson about the television show The Valleys.

Both men had pleaded not guilty at a previous hearing, but admitted common assault after viewing close circuit television footage prior to today's court proceedings.

In a statement read to the court by prosecutor Jim Mason, Robinson, who requires dental surgery likely to cost about £3,000 ($5,000/€3,650), said he felt his attackers had "behaved like animals" and claimed that following a heated discussion about the television show, he tried to leave the scene and go to the toilet but was struck on the back of the head and attacked by Evans and Butler.

Solicitor for Evans, Gavin Rofer, said the attack was not of Evans "own making" and added that the boxer was deeply remorseful and had consumed "quite a lot of alcohol" at the time of his "extremely limited" part in the assault.

Butler was jailed for 10 weeks for his part in the attack and also ordered to serve four weeks of a previous suspended sentence imposed for a similar offence.

But Evans, who had no previous convictions, escaped with a fine and was also ordered to pay £250 ($420/€304) of costs, a £43 ($72/€52) victim surcharge and £500 ($840/€608) in compensation to Robinson.

Evans is a former European champion but will not be competing at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games this year after joining the International Boxing Association Pro Boxing competition last year.
