He claimed the additional time would give his organisation an opportunity to "work on the best possible solution not only for Ukraine but also for the EuroBasket tournament and image itself."

In March, FIBA ordered a contingency plan be prepared for the 2015 tournament and shifted the 2014 Under-18 European Championship Men Division B, Donetsk to Bulgaria following the outbreak of trouble in Ukraine. 

Ukraine had been awarded the tournament by FIBA Europe in December 2011. 

A final decision on whether to relocate the tournament from the crisis-hit country will be made by a new FIBA Europe board, which is due to be be elected at the body's General Assembly in Munich tomorrow.

FIBA Europe secretary general Kamil Novak claimed that they have received letters of interest from 16 countries that would be willing to host at least some of the tournament.
