Daniel Fogg_18_JuneJune 19 - Loughborough swimmer Daniel Fogg has been named as the Team GB competitor in the men's open water 10 kilometres marathon at London 2012 – which means David Davies, silver medallist in the event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, misses out.

Only one place was available for the event which will take place in Hyde Park on August 10, and 24-year-old Fogg (pictured top), who beat the 27-year-old Welshman in a swim-off in Portugal earlier this month, has claimed it.

However, both men are selected to swim the 1500 metres in London.

Fogg, who finished 16th in the 10km marathon at the 2011 World Championships, said: "I am really happy to have been selected for my second event at the Games.

"I'm back into hard training after recovering from the FINA Open Water event in Portugal and have been focusing on my first event, the 1,500m.

"I'll now sit down with my coach [Kevin Renshaw] to look at the strategy for the open water event too, which is a week after the pool swim.

"It's fantastic to get to race in both events."

The British Olympic Association also confirmed today that diver Rebecca Gallantree (pictured above, in foreground alongside Alicia Blagg) will contest the 3 metres individual springboard diving event.

Gallantree, 27, was already selected by Team GB earlier this month to compete in the 3m synchronised event alongside 15-year-old partner Alicia Blagg and now joins Hannah Starling, 17, as Team GB's representatives in the individual event.

The announcement follows confirmation from the international federation, FINA, that Team GB has been awarded a second host nation place in the women's 3m individual springboard.
