Wu Winxa_London_2012_Test_Event_February_24_2012February 24 - China continued to destroy their competition at the 18th FINA Diving World Cup here as double Olympic champion Wu Minxia (pictured) claimed victory in the women's 3 metre springboard with her compatriot He Zi, the reigning world champion in the event, picking up the silver medal.

Minxia, who will be the clear favourite for victory at the London 2012 Olympics, put in a near flawless performance to claim the win with 368.95 points while Zi was not far behind with 365.40 points.

The duo finished well ahead of third-placed Tania Cagnotto (pictured below) of Italy who claimed the bronze medal with 345.75 points.

Britain's Rebecca Gallantree put in a strong performance to finish in ninth place and admitted that it had been an amazing experience to reach the final and compete against the world's best in the Aquatics Centre with a vocal home crowd behind her.

"I was absolutely buzzing just to be in the final," Gallantree said.

"It was my first individual final on 3m at world level so just to be in the final was really amazing.

"It was more exciting than any other final I have been in because of the crowd and the fact that it was in the Olympic pool.

"I am pleased with my consistency over the two days.

"I am a little disappointed in my last dive in that final because if I had done better I would have been on for a PB but at the same time I can'' be too disappointed."

Meanwhile, Olympic silver medallist Peter Waterfield progressed to the 10m Platform semi-final after finishing 16th in qualifying.

He will now be the home nation's only medal hope in the discipline with Tom Daley not competiting in his favoured event due to a thumb injury.

"It was a long competition and I haven't competed at all since the World Championships last year," he said.

"But I got through it in the end and made the semi-finals.

"It is hard when you have such a long wait between dives.

"My first two dives were great and I was really up for it but as time goes on the adrenaline starts wearing off and you've really got to dig deep for the next few dives."
