The Commonwealth Games Council of Wales (CGCW) had named the first seven athletes selected for the team back in November that included Delhi 2010 silver medallist Jazz Carlin, London 2012 Olympians Jemma Lowe, Georgia Davies, Ieuan Lloyd and Marco Loughran, along with Thomas Haffield and Robert Holderness.

Carlin's silver medal four years ago came in the women's 200 metre freestyle and was followed by a bronze in 400m freestyle, while Wales also claimed bronze medals thanks Davies and Lowe.

The 16 other swimmers named today include Mari Davies, Calum Jarvis, Daniel Jervis, Ellena Jones, Tom Laxton, Hannah McCarthy, Xavier Mohammad, Sian Morgan, Otto Putland, Bethan Sloan, Danielle Stirrat, Alys Thomas, Chloe Tutton and Rachel Williams.

Jack Thomas and Ryan West will take part in the Para-swimming events.

Welsh swimmers have won a total of 21 medals at Commonwealth Games, including four golds for William Brockway at Vancouver 1954, Michael Richards Edinburgh 1970 and Patricia Beavan Christchurch 1974.

David Davies was the last Welsh athlete to claim gold in the pool when he took the men's 1500m freestyle title at Melbourne 2006.

"We have such a strong history in swimming and it's fantastic to see that some of our Delhi 2010 medallists will be competing for Wales again in Glasgow," said CGCW chief executive Chris Jenkins.

"The seven pre-selected swimmers aside it is a very young and relatively inexperienced team and we're delighted to be able to give them such invaluable experience on the world stage and to see how they perform and deliver for Wales."

The Glasgow 2014 Games are due to take from July 23 to August 3.
