July 18 - SQUASHRotterdam is to host a new Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour event which is due to take place at the Victoria squash club from August 27 to September 1.

The 2013 Rotterdam Open will be sponsored by Italian string manufacturer Double AR and will be held on the same courts that hosted the early rounds of the 2011 World Open, staged in Rotterdam.

The deputy director of Rotterdam Topsport - which is helping to stage the event - Hans Zoethoutmaar said: "The 2011 World Open was one of the sporting highlights in our city over the past ten years and we are delighted to be able to stage another world class squash event in Rotterdam.

"We truly hope that we can turn the Double AR Rotterdam Open into an annual event and look forward to seeing many familiar faces in action again on the show court of Victoria."

The total prize fund for the new tournament is $15,000 (£9772/€11,382) and it is registered as a PSA Challenger 15 championship event.

Among the players scheduled to compete in the tournament is eight-time Dutch champion Laurens Jan Anjema and former world number nine Adrian Grant from England.

Executive director of title sponsors Double AR, Brenno Zuccarello hopes that the new partnership will see the Rotterdam Open become an established event on the professional squash tour.

"The sponsorship of the Double AR Rotterdam Open offers us the opportunity to increase our brand awareness in squash, but also provides our younger Double AR players with an opportunity to gain valuable world ranking points on the PSA World Tour," he said.

"We were looking to sponsor a PSA event for quite some time and found the perfect partner in Rotterdam, given its central location in Europe and its tremendous track-record of hosting world class squash events."
