December 27 - Monique van der Vorst, Dutch handcyclist who had ambitions of improving on the two silver medals she won at the Beijing Paralympics, will not now be able to go for gold at London 2012 after she was struck from behind by a cyclist while she was out training, with the accident leading to her being able to walk again.
December 14 - The United States and Canada have praised the decision to include Paratriathlon and Paracanoe at the Rio 2016 Games following the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) governing board's vote to increase the number of sports from 20 to 22.

May 2 - Australia captain Ryan Scott (pictured right) today lifted the International Wheelchair Rugby Four Nations trophy after the hosts cruised to a 57-52 win over Canada in the final of the prestigious competition at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.
May 1 - Richie Powell (pictured), a wheelchair racer who represented Britain at the 1992 Paralympics, was not allowed to board an airplane on his way to a race because he could not walk up the stairs, it has emerged.

February 5 - Britain's Geraint Richards (pictured) has been named Coach of the Year for 2009 by the International Wheelchair Tennis Association.
Denver were awarded the 1976 Winter Olympic Games ahead of Sion in Switzerland, Tempere in Finland and Vancouver in Canada at the International Olympic Committee Session in 1970. But in a Colorado referendum in November 1972, voters rejected funding for the event. It is the only time a city has been awarded the Olympics but pulled out. The IOC then offered the Games to Whistler in Canada, but they too declined owing to a change of Government following elections. Salt Lake City offered to host the Games, but the IOC, still reeling from the Denver rejection, declined and selected Innsbruck, the 1964 host city, as a replacement.
