Remizova came away with three gold and a silver in the women's visually impaired cross-country skiing events at Sochi, claiming victory in the five kilometres and 15km races and was part of the victorious 4x2.5km mixed relay squad.

She also secured a silver in the 1km sprint race.

Compatriot Kaufman followed her table-topping performances on the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit by adding Paralympic gold in the biathlon 6km and 10km standing events, while taking bronze in the 12.5km race.

The IPC has decided to split its traditional Athlete of the Month poll into three separate categories for March in recognition of performances at Sochi 2014.

Declan Farmer, who was part of the victorious United States ice sledge hockey team that claimed gold in Sochi, picked up the male award yesterday, while fans will have the chance to vote for the Team of Sochi 2014 later this month.

The voting for the female prize is now open and the public has until 11am GMT on April 17 to choose their favourite athlete.

The Russian duo are joined by French alpine skier Marie Bochet, German alpine skier Anna Schaffelhuber and snowboarder Bibian Mentel-Spee of the Netherlands.

Alpine skiers Bochet and Schaffelhuber make the list following impressive performances last month.

Twenty-year-old Bochet confirmed her status as one of the biggest stars of the sport as she dominated the events she entered taking gold in the downhill, giant slalom, super-combined and super-G events.

Schaffelhuber, who is only one year older than Bochet, went one better than the Frenchwoman, topping the podium five times in Sochi in the downhill, giant slalom, slalom, super combined and super-G sitting races.

Mentel-Spee confirmed her status as the top female Paralympic snowboarder when she claimed the first ever gold medal in the sport at a Winter Games, while she also picked up the Whang Young Dai Award for exemplifying the Paralympic spirit.

The nominations have been compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees and International Federations.
