The side will be captained by Mike Kerr, one of four members of the squad that competed at the London 2012 Paralympics, where Britain's fifth place was the highest finish by a European nation.

Mandip Sehmi, Bulbul Hussain and Jonathan Coggan also competed in London and they are joined by Jim Roberts, Ayaz Bhuta, Jamie Stead, Alan Ash, Chris Ryan, Gavin Walker, Coral Batey and Muhammad Fakrul Islam.

Myles Pearson, Kylie Grimes and Paul McDerby have been named as reserves.

This will be the sixth edition of the World Championships, with Britain's best finishes coming at the inaugural event in Nottwil in 1995 and in Christchurch in 2006 when they finished fourth on both occasions.

The side also finished fourth at the recent Canada Cup in Vancouver earlier this month and Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby director of performance Lorraine Brown is confident the side heading to Odense next month will put up a good showing.

"Our placing at the recent Canada Cup shows that the young players we have recruited to the game are working well alongside experienced players such as Mike Kerr, Alan Ash and Jonathan Coggan and developing into a strong squad," she said.

"We still have a lot of work to do and tournaments such as the World Championships will only help hone the team further."

Britain are currently ranked fifth in the world but face a tough challenge at the Arena Fyn in the Danish city.

They have been drawn in Pool A alongside reigning Paralympic champions Australia, as well as London 2012 silver medallists Canada and European rivals Belgium, Finland and hosts Denmark.

The other pool contains four-time champions the United States, Japan, European champions Sweden, France, Germany and New Zealand.

Kerr and his squad are set to warm-up for the Championships with a four-match tournament against France at the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre in Leicester this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday (July 5 and 6).

"It is an exciting time for the game," said chief executive of Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby David Pond.

"Thanks to the funding support of UK Sport, the Lottery and Sport England we've been able to nurture this squad and deliver results at international tournaments.

"In the last year alone we've also seen three new clubs open in the UK, with plans for more over the next 12 months."

The Wheelchair Rugby World Championships in Odense is due to take place from August 1 to 10.
