Bosnia and Herzegovina claimed the world crown in a three sets to one victory over Rio 2016 Paralympic host nation Brazil, after losing out to Iran in the tournament's gold medal match four years earlier.

The ultimate winners took the first set 25-23, before the silver medallists - who had beaten the defending champions in yesterday's semi-finals - took the second set 25-20 to level the match.

Bosnia then pushed through to take the third set 25-7 and the fourth 28-26 to take the world title.

London 2012 silver medallists Iran defeated Egypt 3-0 to take the bronze medal and complete the men's podium.

China's women completed a unique double, winning back-to-back Paralympic and world titles, when they secured the gold in Elbląg over London 2012 silver medallists the United States.

The champions lost the first set 25-23 before levelling in the second with 25-22.

The US then took the third 25-19, but China hit back to take the fourth 25-21 and the fifth 17-15 to successfully defend their world title.

"USA is very strong, and that's even greater feeling to win the match," China's Hunji Huang said.

"We win now, we'll go back and start to train again for another Paralympic Games."

William Hamiter, the US coach, admitted that his side had lost to the world's best squad.

"China is the best team in the world, we are disappointed but it was great game," he said.

"Especially in the tiebreak we showed that we are very strong team - we played point for point."

Russia defeated The Netherlands 3-0 to take the women's world bronze medal.
